A Challenge Issued and Completed

Mar 29, 2024

Earlier this month, Guy Jeffery circulated an image of an interesting and potential new CPV on the 1¢ Small Queen 1F4.1. He was hoping that a second example might be found.

Today he found a second example. This CPV is better than most and is visible with the unaided eye. Finding one would be well worth the time and effort. Check all your early 1880s One Cent Small Queens.

We note that Ron Waldston shows a 'similar' variety (his 1 PF 808), but his diagram suggests that the line extends to the Queen's tiara. In both of Guy's examples, the line clearly ends in the middle of the 'S'.

Update: Ron Smith reports a third example a day later.

A New 2¢ CPV

François Alarie has been busy. He reports both a new early date for 3R3.10 and confirms that an item from the Is It Constant site is, actually constant. Check out 2F9.2.

The "Horn in the Hair" is Constant.

Today I received an email with an image of a second example of 2F16.5Q. I had pretty well abandoned any hope of finding a second example, so when Jim McCormick shared a clear image of his example, it was a very pleasant surprise. The "Q" in 1F16.5Q has been removed as there is now no question that the fault is constant.
